What are the meanings of FCU, AHU, PAU, RCU, MAU, FFU, and HRV in refrigeration systems?

1. FCU (Full Name: Fan Coil Unit)

The fan coil unit is the end device of the air conditioning system. Its working principle is that the air in the room where the unit is located is recycled continuously, so that the air is cooled (heated) after passing through the cold water (hot water) coil unit, so as to keep the room temperature constant. Mainly relying on the forced action of the fan, the air is heated when passing through the surface of the heater, thereby strengthening the convective heat exchanger between the radiator and the air, which can quickly heat the air in the room.

2. AHU (Full Name: Air Handling Units)

Air handling unit, also known as air conditioning box or air cabinet. It mainly relies on the rotation of the fan to drive indoor air to exchange heat with the internal coil of the unit, and filter impurities in the air to maintain indoor temperature, humidity, and air cleanliness by controlling the outlet temperature and air volume. The air handling unit with fresh air function also performs heat and humidity treatment and filtration treatment on the air, including fresh air or return air. At present, air handling units mainly come in several forms, including ceiling mounted, vertical, horizontal, and combined. The ceiling type air handling unit is also known as a ceiling cabinet; Combined air handling unit, also known as combined air cabinet or group cabinet.

3. HRV total heat exchanger

HRV, full name: Heat Reclaim Ventilation, Chinese name: Energy Recovery Ventilation System. The Dajin air conditioner was invented in 1992 and is now known as a "total heat exchanger". This type of air conditioner recovers the lost heat energy through ventilation equipment, reducing the load on the air conditioner while maintaining a comfortable and fresh environment. In addition, HRV can be used in conjunction with VRV systems, commercial split systems, and other air conditioning systems, and can automatically switch ventilation modes to further improve energy efficiency.

4. FAU (Full Name: Fresh Air Unit)

FAU fresh air unit is an air conditioning device that provides fresh air for both household and commercial use.

Working principle: Fresh air is extracted outdoors and treated with dust removal, dehumidification (or humidification), cooling (or heating), and then sent indoors through a fan to replace the original indoor air when entering the indoor space. The difference between AHU air handling units and FAU fresh air units: AHU not only includes fresh air conditions, but also includes return air conditions; FAU fresh air units mainly refer to air handling units with fresh air conditions. In a sense, it is the relationship between the former and the latter.

5. PAU (Full Name: Pre Cooling Air Unit)

Pre cooled air conditioning boxes are generally used in conjunction with fan coil units (FCUs), with the function of pre-treating outdoor fresh air and then sending it to the fan coil unit (FCU).

6. RCU (Full Name: Recycled Air Conditioning Unit)

A circulating air conditioning box, also known as an indoor air circulation unit, mainly sucks in and exhausts indoor air to ensure indoor air circulation.

7. MAU (Full Name: Make-up Air Unit)

A brand new air conditioning unit is an air conditioning device that provides fresh air. Functionally, it can achieve constant temperature and humidity or simply provide fresh air according to the requirements of the usage environment. The working principle is to extract fresh air outdoors, and after treatment such as dust removal, dehumidification (or humidification), cooling (or heating), it is sent indoors through a fan to replace the original indoor air when entering the indoor space. Of course, the functions mentioned above need to be determined based on the needs of the usage environment, and the more complete the functions, the higher the cost.

8. DCC (Full Name: Dry Cooling Coil)

Dry cooling coils (abbreviated as dry coils or dry cooling coils) are used to eliminate sensible heat indoors.

9. HEPA high-efficiency filter

High efficiency filters refer to filters that meet HEPA standards, with an effective rate of 99.998% for 0.1 micrometers and 0.3 micrometers. The characteristic of HEPA network is that air can pass through, but small particles cannot pass through. It can achieve a removal efficiency of over 99.7% for particles with a diameter of 0.3 micrometers (hair diameter of 1/200) or more, making it the most effective filtering medium for pollutants such as smoke, dust, and bacteria. It is internationally recognized as an efficient filtration material. Widely used in highly clean places such as operating rooms, animal laboratories, crystal experiments, and aviation.

10. FFU (Full Name: Fan Filter Units)

A fan filter unit is an end purification equipment that combines a fan and a filter (HEPA or ULPA) to form its own power supply. To be precise, it is a modular end air supply device with built-in power and filtering effect. The fan sucks in air from the top of the FFU and filters it through HEPA. The filtered clean air is evenly sent out at a wind speed of 0.45m/s ± 20% on the entire air outlet surface.

11. OAC external gas processing unit

OAC external air processing unit, also known as the Japanese term, is used for sending air into enclosed factories, equivalent to domestic fresh air processing units such as MAU or FAU.

12. EAF (Full Name: Exhaust Air Fan)

EAF air conditioning exhaust fan is mainly used in public areas of floors, such as corridors, stairwells, etc.
