How to select the appropriate fan

1、 How to select industrial fan?

Industrial fans can be used for many purposes and have a variety of configurations:

-Integrated fan

-Duct fan

-Portable fan

-Electric cabinet fan

-Others.

The first step is to determine the type of fan required.

The choice of technology is usually made between axial flow fan and centrifugal fan. In short, axial flow fans can provide high air flow and low overpressure, so they are only suitable for low pressure drop (short circuit) applications, while centrifugal fans are more suitable for high pressure drop (long circuit) applications. Axial flow fans are also generally more compact and noisy than equivalent centrifugal fans.

Fans are selected to provide a certain amount of air (or gas) at a certain pressure level. For many applications, the selection is relatively simple and the flow rate indicated by the manufacturer is sufficient to calculate the fan size. The situation becomes more complex when the fan is connected to the circuit (ventilation network, air supply to the burner, etc.). The air flow delivered by the fan depends on its own characteristics and also depends on the pressure drop of the circuit. This is the principle of the working point: if the fan flow pressure curve and the loop flow pressure loss curve are drawn, the working point of the fan in this circuit will be located at the intersection of the two curves.

Although most fans operate at room temperature, some fans must operate at specific temperature or environmental conditions. This is the case, for example, with the circulating fan in the oven. Therefore, it is important to select different types of fans according to different applications.

2、 Why choose spiral fan?

The spiral fan (or axial flow fan) is composed of a propeller whose engine rotates on its axis. The propeller pushes the air flow parallel to its axis of rotation.

The spiral fan can provide high air flow, but the pressure between the upstream and downstream has hardly increased. Because the overpressure is very low, their use is limited to the short circuit caused by low pressure drop.

Axial fans usually have 2 to 60 blades. Its efficiency is 40% to 90%.

This fan is generally used for air circulation in large rooms, through wall ventilation and duct ventilation in rooms.

Compared with the centrifugal fan, the spiral fan occupies less space, costs less and has lower noise.

3、 Why choose centrifugal fan?

The centrifugal fan (or runoff fan) consists of a fan wheel (impeller), which is driven by a motor that rotates in the stator connected to the impeller. The stator has two openings: the first opening provides fluid to the central part of the impeller, the fluid permeates through vacuum, and the second opening blows to the edge through centrifugal action.

There are two types of centrifugal fans: front bend fan and back bend fan. The forward curved centrifugal fan has a "squirrel cage" impeller and 32 to 42 blades. Its efficiency is 60% to 75%. The efficiency of backward curved centrifugal fan is 75% to 85%, and the number of blades is 6 to 16.

The overpressure is higher than that of spiral fan, so centrifugal fan is more suitable for long circuit.

Centrifugal fans also have an advantage in terms of noise levels: they are quieter. However, it takes up more space and costs more than spiral cyclone.

4、 How to select an electronic fan?

Electronics fans are compact and enclosed fans with standard dimensions and supply voltages (AC or DC) for easy integration into the enclosure.

The fan is used to eliminate the heat generated by the electronic components in the enclosure. Select according to the following conditions:

Air displacement

volume

Supply voltage available in the enclosure

For the sake of compactness, most electronic fans are spiral fans, but there are also centrifugal and diagonal flow fans, which can provide higher air flow.

5、 How to select fans for the electrical cabinet?

The electric cabinet fan can blow cold air into the cabinet to regulate the temperature of electronic equipment. They prevent dust from entering the cabinet by creating a slight overpressure.

Generally, these fans are installed on the door or side wall of the cabinet and integrated into the ventilation network. There are also some models that can be installed on the top of the cabinet. They are equipped with filters to prevent dust from entering the cabinet.

The selection of this fan is based on:

Air displacement

Cabinet supply voltage

Effectiveness of filter
